Wat is een pelletkachel?
Ze lijken op een gewone kachel maar hebben een andere werking. Een pelletkachel is een elektronisch geavanceerd apparaat dat een milieuvriendelijker en goedkopere optie is dan een gewone houtkachel. Deze kachels hebben een ingebouwde thermostaat en kunnen dus geprogrammeerd worden zoals een centrale verwarming.
Nu we met zen allen de positieve evolutie doormaken waarbij we milieubewuster aan het worden zijn en meer op ons geld gaan letten zijn pelletkachels zeer interessant. Voor gezinnen met het oog op de toekomst is een pelletkachel een goede investering. Zo zorg je voor het milieu en je portefeuille!
Een pelletkachel heeft door het raam en de zichtbare vlam hetzelfde uitzicht als een houtkachel. Je kunt dus ook genieten van een gezellig warm vuur in je woonkamer maar je hoeft geen bomen te hakken, houtblokken te klieven en te stapelen. Pellets zijn ook veel compacter dan houtblokken, waardoor je naast je kachel in een reservoir een ruime voorraad kunt bijhouden die niet veel plaats inneemt. Zo hoef je niet steeds terug naar buiten om nieuw hout te gaan halen.
Daarnaast zijn pelletkachels ook milieuvriendelijker en je kunt er heel wat mee uitsparen op je verbruikskosten.

Hoe werkt een pelletkachel?
Bekijk eerst even deze mooie 3D-visualisatie over de werking van een pelletkachel. In dit filmpje zie je hoe een Nordic Fire Pelletkachel werkt, de werking van deze kachel is gelijkaardig aan die van andere merken en zal je een goed idee geven van hoe een pelletkachel precies werkt.
De pellets in het ingebouwde reservoir in de pelletkachel worden vanuit dat reservoir getransporteerd naar de vuurkorf. Daarna worden de pellets automatisch ontstoken in de vuurkorf door de goeispiraal en de luchttoevoer. De kachel regelt zelf de snelheid van aanvoer van pellets en de hoeveelheid luchttoevoer om zo tot de gevraagde temperatuur te komen. Een ventilator blaast de rookgassen naar buiten. Een andere ventilator blaast de warme lucht de kamer in. Een pelletkachel geeft het grootste deel van zijn warmte af door convectie in plaats van door stralingswarmte zoals bij een houtkachel. Daardoor warmt de buitenkant van de pelletkachel minder sterk op.

Soorten pelletkachels
Pelletkachels zijn te verkrijgen in verschillende maten, kleuren en stijlen. Aangepast aan de stijl van uw huis en uw noden. We onderscheiden echter twee soorten pelletkachels: de inbouw en een vrijstaand model.

Pellets
Pelletkachels gebruiken pellets als brandstof. Dit zijn cilinders van 6-8 mm dik, ongeveer 3 cm lang samengeperst zaagsel en/of houtkrullen afkomstig van zuiver onbehandeld hout.
De kleur van de pellets zegt niet direct iets over de kwaliteit maar over de gebruikte houtsoort. Donkere pellets zijn gemaakt van houtsoorten zoals beuk en eik en branden langzamer en minder fel. Lichtere pellets zijn gemaakt van houtsoorten zoals dennenhout en branden sneller en geven meer warmte vrij in een kortere tijd.
Bij het samenpersen van de houtkrullen en het zaagsel komt lignine vrij uit het hout. Dit is een bindmiddel dat van nature in hout voorkomt, waardoor de geperste pellets hun vorm behouden zonder toevoeging van lijm of ander bindmiddel. Dit komt de verbranding natuurlijk ten goede!
Pellets zijn dus milieuvriendelijker, goedkoper en eenvoudiger op te slaan dan houtblokken. Je kunt ze makkelijk in een zak of doos stockeren. Ze hebben ook een veel lagere vervuilingsgraad dan andere manieren van verwarmen.
Houtpellets zijn niet de enige optie! Je kunt ook pellets verkrijgen gemaakt van korrel vormige brandstoffen zoals: mais, kersenpitten of olijfpitten. Hou er wel rekening mee dat je kachel hierop moet voorzien zijn! Of uit cellulose houdende materialen zoals: stro, miscanthus of artisjokresten.
